Prizes were also given for "Longest Drive" (Wyatt Henderson and Brook Jacksha), "Women's Longest Drive" (Amy Haaland), and "Closest to the Pin" (Jeff Baerwald and Bill Christopher). 8/22/2008 — MKA engineers take home the bronze in Seattle Sandfest 2008 competition held at Westlake Center on Friday, August 22. Their entry, "Sandskraper," was created by a team of eight and featured several MKA-designed Seattle buildings encircled by a giant Puget Sound octopus. This was MKA's first-ever entry into this annual competition and sandcastle creation in general. 8/20/2008 — MKA Principal and Convention Center Specialist Group leader Derek Beaman participates in HOK's "Imagine That" workshop held August 20-22, 2008, in Kansas City. This is the 6th year that HOK has held their workshop, which brings together a select group of convention center owners, operators, designers, and consultants for a very useful exchange of information and ideas. 8/1/2008 — MKA Principal David Eckmann has been elected Chair of the Chicago Committee on High-Rise Buildings (CCHRB), with a term running through May 2010. CCHRB is an 81-member, not-for-profit organization founded to investigate problems or enhancements, support research, and disseminate information for economic design, construction, operation, and rehabilition of high-rise buildings. The competition featured 20 structures designed and built by some of Chicago's top architecture and engineering firms. Over 85,000 full cans of food were incorporated into the structures, ultimately donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
