Replacement of 1,128 linear meters (3,700 linear feet) of derelict seawall and abutting city street, utilities, and public spaces. MKA managed the design integration of all public-realm and habitat restoration elements into the seawall replacement engineering and its interface with the long-term framework plan for Seattle’s viaduct-free waterfront. Unique components include waterfront promenade with a light-penetrating sidewalk (LPS), new habitat beach, and pedestrian amenities. The LPS, selected using a first-ever daylighting model, improves salmon migration, while textured seawall panels promote sea life attachment.
