Four-story, 6,689-m² (72,000-ft²) expansion comprising five linear volumes varying in length and height and clad in a transparent curtain wall. In a first-ever application of its type, the use of self-consolidating concrete achieved slim-column aesthetics in the galleries, allowing architectural expression while meeting stringent earthquake requirements. Selection of a concrete structural system reduced the overall building height, economically provides the desired long spans, and creates the crisp façade edges desired by the architect.
