Modification of 48,774 m² (525,000 ft²) in an existing manufacturing facility to accommodate assembly of the 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Design included both the base structure and ongoing adaptation to the structure and infrastructure to accommodate new assembly tools still under development. This required intense coordination between the designers, the contractor, Boeing’s facilities engineering staff, aircraft designers, tooling engineers, and assembly machinists, all within a fast-track schedule.
