Civil site design for replacement of 1,128 linear meters (3,700 linear feet) of derelict seawall and abutting city street, utilities, and public spaces. MKA managed the design integration of all public-realm and habitat restoration elements into the seawall replacement engineering and its interface with the long-term framework plan for Seattle’s viaduct-free waterfront. Unique components include waterfront promenade with a light-penetrating sidewalk (LPS), new habitat beach, and pedestrian amenities. The LPS, selected using a first-ever daylighting model, improves salmon migration, while textured seawall panels promote sea life attachment.
