Nine-story, 25,548-m² (275,000-ft²) bed tower and two-story, 3,716-m² (40,000-ft²) Emergency Department and surgical/procedure facility, both designed to “Essential Facility” standards. The structural system developed used concrete for the Emergency Department to minimize vibrations and steel for the patient tower floors to shorten the construction schedule. MKA also designed a temporary shoring system that doubled as permanent underpinning support for existing foundations adjacent to the new building.
