73-story, 34,931-m² (327,994-ft²) double-ellipse-shaped residential tower built against steep cliffs in one of the windiest places on earth. The building’s extremely tall, slender profile, soaring to 250 m (818 ft), makes it one of the most slender buildings in the world and is possible due to a first-of-its-kind “tuned liquid mass” (sloshing) damper system. The dampers, essentially large water tanks at the top of the tower, use the force of sloshing liquid to resist wind-induced building movements, providing increased occupant comfort, enhanced structural performance during typhoons, reduced concrete column, wall, and beam sizes, and 40% less steel reinforcing.
