29,729-m² (320,000-ft²) design/build seismic retrofit including a 3,716-m² (40,000-ft²) expansion a 24/7 operational two-story airport terminal to enhance concessions, relieve congestion at the passenger screening checkpoint, add new airport club room, and seismically strengthen the existing structure. MKA developed an innovative structural retrofit solution that utilized the new structural expansion on the airside of the terminal to seismically retrofit the entire existing structure. By using this “exterior buttress” approach, the existing structure required very little strengthening, allowing 24/7 operations and safety for passengers and employees throughout construction. The project is targeting LEED Gold Certification.
