10-story, 20,903-m² (225,000-ft²) expansion to an iconic art museum, seamlessly connecting the existing Mario Botta design with the new addition. The project more than doubles the museum’s current gallery space, with column-free exhibit spaces of up to 18 by 46 m (60 by 150 ft), increased education spaces, expansive new public gathering spaces, and a versatile, double-height "white box" for live art. A new outdoor sculpture terrace features the biggest "living wall" of native plants in San Francisco.
