Civil site design for renovations of a highly visible 6,000-m² (1.5-acre) open space located within a main Seattle public park. MKA spearheaded the creation of a highly sustainable site using LID techniques to cleanse stormwater and express and cleanse rainwater. By using the rainwater for landscape irrigation and incorporating permeable pavers, MKA eliminated the need for traditional (and costly) tanks and pumps. The project was the first in Washington certified as a SITES Pilot Program “Sustainable Landscape”, and one of just 15 nationwide.
