SELECT PROJECT AWARDS:
  • Award of Merit - 2011 Region Design Awards, American Institute of Architects, Northwest and Pacific Region Chapter
  • Honor Award - 2009 Civic Design Awards, American Institute of Architects, Washington Chapter

Three-building development comprised of a 7,989-m² (86,000-ft²) office building and a two-building, 18,300-m² (197,000-ft²) research/lab complex, a below-grade vivarium, 150-seat auditorium, 100-person seminar room, cafe, and 13,935 m² (150,000 ft²) of below-grade parking for 350 cars. The two buildings are connected by a multi-level skybridge and the northern lab ties in seamlessly with the adjacent Brotman Building (also by MKA). By reducing the floor system height, MKA raised parking levels out of the water table, minimizing excavation and eliminating the need for a dewatering system. MKA’s extensive shoring system covered 3,160-m² (34,000-ft²) along four street frontages.
