3-story, 10,498-m² (113,000-ft²), Northwest-inspired, steel-framed museum on a university campus featuring stiffened, steel-plate canopies up to 6.1 m (20 ft) long and exposed steel framed stairs, 12 labs and workrooms, six galleries, collection storage areas, artist workshop, and a café. The new Burke Museum features a Coast Salish-inspired roof and is 66% larger than the original building with climate-controlled collection storage areas that allow for future growth. The project is targeting LEED-Gold certification.
