Delivering new energy to an existing 28-story office building constructed with a pre-Northridge steel moment-frame and bolted connections in the early 1960s, this project includes a voluntary seismic retrofit and comprehensive tenant improvements. MKA selected a seismic performance objective based on comprehensive discussions with the ownership group. The retrofit's additional energy dissipation dampers, located in coordination with the design team to minimize office layout impacts, reduced forces on the existing lateral system. MKA also worked with the construction team to install dampers in phases, maintaining building occupancy and minimizing tenant disruptions.
