Panama Museum of Biodiversity

3,716-m² (40,000-ft²) biodiversity museum, located at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal, with exhibit, atrium, cafe, and retail spaces. Sixteen separate buildings combine to create the iconic structure, with folded steel roof elements comprising 49 flat planes designed to look like the understory of a tropical rain forest. The museum’s exhibits include two aquariums, 130,000 and 102,000 gallons, as well as smaller display tanks and educational exhibits. The project’s complex geometry required modeling and documentation in 3-D.
