MKA provided civil site design for this LEED Gold, 13-story healthcare research tower with five levels of below-grade parking. The design required narrowing of Terry Avenue to reduce vehicular travel speeds at the intersections and added a lush City-designated Green Street, creating generous pedestrian-oriented spaces with comfortable seating. MKA used a landscape-based stormwater approach that directs sidewalk runoff to landscape areas that overflow into the municipal storm drain system, reducing stormwater discharge through passive irrigation, infiltration, and evapotranspiration; slowing runoff velocity; and removing pollutants to contribute to the SalmonSafe environment. The collaborative civil and landscape design increased the site’s pervious area from under 0.4% to over 10%.
