Civil Engineer

Building Cure

MKA provided civil site design for this 13-story healthcare research tower with five levels of below-grade parking. The design required narrowing of Terry Avenue to reduce vehicular travel speeds at the intersections and added a lush Green Street development, creating generous pedestrian-oriented spaces with comfortable seating. MKA utilized a landscape-based stormwater conveyance approach allowing sidewalks to sheet-flow to landscape areas before entering the municipal storm drain system; this slows and removes pollutants from the impervious areas and contributes to the SalmonSafe environment. Through the sustainable measures incorporated, MKA’s design increased the site’s pervious surface area from just under 0.4% to more than 10%. Additionally, predominantly native plants now cover more than 35% of the site.
