Century Project Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit

MKA completed a peer-reviewed seismic evaluation and retrofit design as part of an extensive renovation of the iconic Space Needle’s existing restaurant and observation deck. After evaluating the 1960s-era, 605-ft-tall structural steel tower in accordance with ASCE 41-13 and Limited Damage Structural Performance and Basic Safety Earthquake 2E (BSE-2E) standards, MKA’s retrofit design elements included the strengthening of column splices, column base connections, and several interior columns.
