Elliott Bay Central Seawall

To address Seattle’s failing waterfront seawall and restore marine habitat, the City of Seattle launched the Central Seawall Project (CSP), replacing 3,700 ft of derelict shoreline structure with a seismic-resistant version. As Public Realm Lead, MKA managed the design and integration of CSP’s habitat and public-space improvements. The firm’s innovative contributions included complex daylight modeling and analysis to develop a custom light-penetrating sidewalk solution, design oversight of artistically textured face panels and habitat shelves that offer marine food and protection, and design of public spaces and their integration into the larger Central Waterfront Plan.
