MKA’s extensive résumé of adaptive reuse and renovation work encompasses additions, repositions, and seismic evaluations and retrofits on a wide variety of building types across the country. Ranging from new construction tenant improvements to historic preservation, we engage our in-house Existing Buildings Technical Specialist Team for each renovation project aiming to recognize the potential unknowns, focusing on efforts to minimize this risk. This includes a focus on field investigation during the early design phase, assisting with the development of thorough as-built modeling, and collaborating with the design team and contractor to provide the most efficient structural system considering not only costs, but also constructability, sequencing, and tolerance for unforeseen conditions. For historic structures, we prioritize sensitivity to the important architectural features of a building while adapting the contemporary technologies of new building programs.
